Career transition advice for women seeking purpose, confidence, and a meaningful second act career.
If you’ve ever questioned whether you’re on the right career path, you’re not alone.
Many women reach a point where they realize that the career they chose years ago no longer fits the life they want today. That feeling often sparks a career change, a midlife career transition, or the beginning of a second act career.
In a recent episode of the Second Act Success Podcast, I had the pleasure of speaking with Siena Dean, a purpose-driven leader who helps professionals align their values with career success. Her message was simple but powerful:
It’s never too late to build a life that feels aligned.

Start with Purpose, Not Just a Paycheck
Unlike many professionals who spend decades climbing the ladder before questioning what they truly want, Siena approached her career with intentionality from the very beginning. She knew she wanted to help people and allowed that purpose to guide every decision she made.
Today, she serves as Senior Alumni Engagement Manager at Management Leadership for Tomorrow, helping thousands of professionals navigate career growth, leadership development, and life transitions.
Her story is a reminder that success isn’t about titles. It’s about creating a life that reflects your values.

It’s Never Too Late to Pivot: Finding Purpose and Creating a Career You Love with Siena Dean | #260
Why So Many Women Feel Stuck
As a business coach for women and career transition coach, I’ve seen this pattern repeatedly.
Women often spend years doing what they believe they “should” do. They pursue promotions. They stay on the same path. They prioritize stability.
But eventually, they ask themselves:
- Is this really what I want?
- Why am I unhappy when everything looks successful on paper?
- What would I do if I could start over?
According to Siena, many people know they want a career transition, but they don’t know why. And understanding the “why” is the first step toward meaningful career reinvention.
Connect the Dots Instead of Starting Over
One of my favorite concepts from our conversation was Siena’s belief that nothing in your career is wasted.
Too often women think:
- “I’ve spent too many years in this industry.”
- “I can’t pivot now.”
- “My experience won’t transfer.”
But every experience builds skills. Every role teaches something valuable. Every chapter becomes part of your story.
The goal isn’t to erase your past. The goal is to connect the dots. That’s what makes a second act career so powerful.
You aren’t beginning from scratch. You’re building from experience.
Confidence Comes from Personal Power
Confidence isn’t something you magically wake up with.
According to Siena, confidence comes from defining yourself instead of allowing society to define you. Many women wait for permission. Permission to start a business, to leave corporate, to change careers, to dream bigger.
But confidence grows when we recognize that we already have that permission. This is especially important for women over 40 careers and women over 50 careers, when many women begin questioning what they want from the next chapter of life.
Why Self-Reflection Matters
One of Siena’s most beautiful pieces of advice was surprisingly simple: Sit in silence.
In a world filled with distractions, social media, and endless noise, we rarely give ourselves the opportunity to hear our own thoughts. Yet self-discovery begins with stillness.
Before you can create your next chapter, you have to understand:
- What brings you joy?
- What drains your energy?
- What kind of life do you want?
- What does success look like for you?
These questions often become the foundation of a second act career.
It’s Never Too Late to Pivot
Whether you’re considering entrepreneurship, leaving corporate, or simply searching for more purpose and work-life balance, Siena’s advice was clear: Just start.
You don’t need to have the entire plan figured out.
You don’t need to quit your job tomorrow.
You simply need to take the next step.
Momentum creates clarity, and clarity creates confidence to do big things in your career and in your life.
Your Second Act Starts with You
One of the greatest lessons from this conversation is that your life belongs to you. Not your employer. Not society. Not anyone else’s expectations.
If you’re feeling called toward something new, trust that feeling.
Your second act career doesn’t have to make sense to everyone else. It only has to make sense to you.
The most successful career transitions happen when women stop living according to expectations and start living according to purpose.
Your Second Act Is Waiting
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned is that you don’t need to be fearless. You don’t need to have all the answers. And you certainly don’t need to rush.
You simply need to ask: What if?
What if I started researching?
What if I gave myself permission?
What if I built something that aligned with my values?
What if I created my own version of success?
Because your second act career isn’t about escaping. It’s about creating.
It’s about designing a life that supports your family, your dreams, and your purpose. That’s exactly what we talk about every week on the Second Act Success Podcast.
