Never doubt a confidant woman.

When a woman decides to start her own business, something shifts. She no longer waits for permission, validation, or the “right time.” She steps into her power, makes bold decisions, and discovers a new level of confidence that flows into every part of her life, from her career to her family, relationships, and beyond.

As a business coach who helps women start second act businesses, I’ve witnessed this transformation firsthand. It’s not just about building a brand or earning income (though that’s amazing too). It’s about becoming the most empowered version of yourself, and watching how that empowerment spills over into everything you do.

When you launch a business of your own, you go through ups and downs, ebbs and flows, and these all instill a resilience in you like nothing else can.

In this blog, we will explore how launching a business boosts a woman’s confidence, and why so many women are choosing this path more today than ever before.

How Starting a Business Boosts Confidence in Women—and Changes Every Area of Their Lives

Entrepreneurship Gives Women a Voice

When women run businesses, they get to call the shots. For many, it’s the first time they’ve truly had ownership over their time, decisions, and income. This independence fuels confidence like nothing else.

Instead of shrinking themselves to fit into a corporate box, women entrepreneurs expand and test their skills, talents, and creativity in new ways. They start speaking up, leading, and inspiring those around them.

💡 Fun fact: According to the National Association of Women Business Owners (NAWBO), over 42% of U.S. businesses are owned by women, employing nearly 10 million people and generating $1.9 trillion in revenue.

Confidence Grows with Every Win

Each step a woman takes in building her business, launching a website, landing her first client, creating her offer…builds confidence. Even her stumbles and setbacks become proof of resilience, especially as she steps forward dusting off her shoulders and moving. It all comes with the territory of being your own boss.

What begins as uncertainty quickly evolves into belief: “If I can do this, what else am I capable of?”

And that belief becomes unstoppable.

Confidence at Work Translates to Confidence at Home

When a woman feels fulfilled in her work, it shows up in every aspect of her life. She’s more present with her kids. More connected with her partner. More secure in who she is and the choices she’s making.

She’s no longer feeling stuck or second-guessing herself—because she knows she’s building something that matters.

For me, I noticed my confidence soar once I began seeing success in my first business. I remember getting that first yes from a business partner, and then the next one, and the next one. With each accomplishment, I stood a little taller and my confidence kept me moving forward to keep striving.

💡 Fun fact: FreshBooks found that 96% of self-employed women are happier than when they were in traditional jobs, and 70% reported improved work-life balance, according to one study.

Women Who Start Businesses Become Role Models

When you first began thinking about creating something of your own, did you look at other people as role models or mentors? Did you research any other women who did something similar to what you want to do?

If you have been following me for any amount of time, you most likely know how much I love researching ideas. So when I decided to leave my career to start a business, I did my research. I read books and listened to business podcasts of women like Marie Forleo, Amy Porterfield, Jenna Kutcher, and Barbara Corcoran to learn from them. I spoke to business owners and asked them what their experience was like. We can learn so much from women who are a few steps ahead of us.

When you start your business, you are not just changing your own life, you’re showing your children, your friends, and your community what’s possible. You become a living example of courage, creativity, and leadership.

That ripple effect builds even more confidence, knowing your actions are inspiring others to dream bigger too.

Financial Freedom Fuels Personal Power

Let’s talk about money, and what happens when a woman starts earning financially through her business. When a woman earns her own income, on her own terms, she experiences a deep sense of freedom. She can support her family, invest in their future, and make decisions from a place of power instead of scarcity. Wow, what a difference that is!

💡 Fun fact: According to American Express, women-owned businesses grew at twice the rate of all U.S. businesses between 2014 and 2019. That growth continues today, especially among women launching service-based and online businesses.

Remember, financial freedom isn’t just about dollars, it’s about confidence and control over your life.

A Business Becomes a Confidence-Building Legacy

Starting your own business doesn’t just change your current situation, it builds a legacy. It teaches your children that work can be joyful, that women can lead, and that success comes in many forms.

My kids are too young to remember me working in New York City as a television producer working late nights and being away often for work. I started my first business when they were very young. Now, a few businesses later, they see me as a mom who is home after school, working with clients, speaking at events, and writing books. They know that I make my own hours, and most importantly, that I love what I do. I’m proud to be this example for them, and I hope they are proud of me.

Every woman I’ve coached to launch her business has walked away with more than a paycheck, she’s walked away standing taller, speaking more clearly, and owning her worth because she knows she can take her past experience and use it to build a future for herself.

My Final Thoughts:
If you’ve ever doubted yourself or wondered if you’re “cut out” for entrepreneurship, please hear this: You are capable. You have gifts, ideas, and life experiences that are worth sharing.  When you take that first step toward starting your own business, you’ll unlock a level of confidence you didn’t even know you had.

And that confidence? It changes everything my friend!

If I can make a change in my career and start a second act business, or two, I know you can too.
